How Coastal Kids Went from a Broken Internal App to a B2B-Ready SaaS in 8 Months
Rescued a crashing healthcare app, cut deployment from 3 days to 4 hours, and repositioned it for B2B sales.
Brittle, completely undocumented design and architecture of Compass and its infrastructure; risky releases, where we had to deploy 2 versions of the application: one to the iOS store and another to a standalone web admin portal; unclear data ownership and permissions governance and compartmentalization; compliance concerns before handing over the work from the previous international talent that had built and maintained the application prior to our engagement.
- End-to-end test coverage and a robust CI/CD pipeline for seamless development and deployment
- Kubernetes infrastructure on Digital Ocean using Terraform and Argo CD
- Reduced monthly maintenance from 12 hours at agency rate to 1 to 2 hours a year
- Repositioned Compass from standalone to B2B-ready for other ABA clinics
- Coached the client through the software sales lifecycle
Led discovery + architecture, owned integration risk assessment, aligned stakeholders on delivery plan and "definition of safe." Worked very closely with clients to manage cost and security risks, in the ultimate effort to work towards improving the quality of the application so that the client could position this custom application of their to other ABA clinics, and increase their revenue.
More predictable integrations, safer deployments, faster troubleshooting, and reduced implementation risk heading into launch. Autism Therapists saw a significant decrease in the periods throughout the month that blocked them from completing their work, or having to re-do work entirely. This was happening around 8-14 days out of the month, month over month. By implementing robust end to end testing, quality, coverage, and analysis tools to our CICD pipeline, we reduced the number of times these events occurred to 1-2 times throughout the course of the year, down from the 96 to 168 times this occurred before we were engaged with the project. Additionally, we helped Coastal Kids confidently present Compass, their ABA platform, to other businesses, coached her, and guided her through the entire SDLC and software sales lifecycles, including the design and implementation work required to take the application from stand-alone, one-business-ready, to being able to deploy the solution to any other ABA clinic, seamlessly, and cost effectively.
Before working with OrbitLink, we had another development company build the foundation of our ABA data collection and clinical management platform, Compass. Unfortunately, we experienced ongoing technical issues, including recurring problems that were never fully resolved.
Since transitioning to OrbitLink, the experience has been significantly different. Over the past several months, their team has systematically addressed long-standing issues, improved the platform's stability and functionality, and helped eliminate many of the operational headaches we were experiencing. Compass is a critical part of how we manage clinical programming, data collection, supervision, and documentation within our ABA practice, and OrbitLink has become a trusted development partner in its continued growth. We look forward to continuing our relationship as we expand and enhance the platform.
